How Successful is Artificial Intelligence in Mathematics?

In recent years, artificial intelligence is rapidly advancing, but what about in mathematics? If you had asked me this question two years ago, I would have told you that AI was quite bad at mathematics. Especially when I saw how it made mistakes with probability questions, I thought this progress was a long way off. Not only in probability problems, but also many mathematical questions at the undergraduate level gave answers that were sometimes surprisingly accurate, and sometimes incredibly incorrect. However, recently, as I’ve been following AI’s development, I started to wonder if it had made any breakthroughs in mathematics, and I decided to conduct some experiments.

First, I chose the topic of probability. For the probability questions that AI had previously given answers that were clearly beyond nonsensical, I was really surprised by the responses it gave this time. While it used to give wrong results with large error margins, now it can provide correct answers. This development not only shows an important mathematical breakthrough but also shows that AI has become more reliable in abstract topics like probability. I also asked questions from other subjects, and I can clearly say that there is development, but there are still shortcomings.

                           

Particularly, there has been significant progress in sending photos and properly transferring symbols in questions, and AI’s ability to understand these symbols accurately has improved greatly. In the past, it would misinterpret the integral symbol in an equation and give incorrect answers, but now symbols are recognized much more accurately. Additionally, there have been important advancements in solving problems and forming logical connections. However, it’s still necessary to say that there are gaps in some abstract and advanced topics.

AI's mathematical capabilities are developing rapidly, but it still needs quite a bit of progress before it can fully replace human intelligence in mathematics. It seems that AI’s development will increase exponentially, and it might surprise all of us. However, for now, the best approach would be to continue learning mathematics and improving ourselves.
