Is Mathematics a Tool or a Goal?
Mathematics is often used as a tool in various scientific fields such as physics and chemistry. However, mathematics is actually a science in its own right. Unlike other sciences, it does not deal directly with tangible realities. In physics, for example, you can conduct experiments to reach conclusions, but in mathematics, you cannot discover truths through experimentation. This raises the question: Is mathematics merely a tool, or is it also a goal in itself?
Although the method of discovering truths in mathematics is different, mathematics is indeed a goal in itself. If it were not considered as such, we would not have achieved many of the scientific advancements we have today. As I mentioned earlier, mathematics serves as a tool for other sciences, and the more mathematics advances, the more other sciences progress. This demonstrates that while mathematics is often used as a tool, it is also a fundamental goal for scientific discovery.
