Mental Distraction and Focus Problems: Ways to Overcome Them

 Hello everyone!

Today, we’re going to discuss why our attention span has decreased so much, why we can no longer study, read books, or even watch a movie from start to finish. Of course, we’ll also address how we can fix this situation.

In recent years, our attention span has drastically decreased. But sometimes, it gets to a point where I can’t even do the things I enjoy. I find myself lying around doing nothing. When I looked into the reasons behind this, I kept coming to the same conclusions:

  • Excessive social media use

  • Unhealthy sleep patterns and nutrition

  • Anxiety and stress disorders

  • Sedentary lifestyle

  • Lack of planning

And many more...

Looking at this list, I realized that I have almost all of these issues. When I thought about it, I noticed that these problems are quite common among average young people in Turkey. So, I decided that I needed to find a solution for both myself and others, and I got to work.

The most common suggestion I encountered in my research was to reduce social media usage. But I knew how hard that could be. It’s not easy to achieve this on your own. So, I sought a more comprehensive solution and created my own methods. Here are three basic steps we can apply to improve our attention span:

  1. Create a healthy lifestyle routine
You should establish a diet, sleep, and exercise routine. Eating healthy can sometimes be difficult due to economic conditions, but it’s important to do our best.

Creating a sleep routine isn’t easy either, but we should at least try to go to bed and wake up at a consistent time.

Exercise is the easiest part! Even a 30-minute walk with no specific goal will do wonders for your mind.

  1. Write down your thoughts and make plans
Keeping a journal and writing down your thoughts helps relax your mind.

Planning your daily life reduces uncertainties and helps you worry less.

Making plans also increases your attention span by letting you know what to do and when.

  1. Replace social media with real hobbies
Find an activity that you enjoy and that is also beneficial. But this should not involve consuming short content on social media!

You could read books, watch the best movies, or even learn about Turkish history from start to finish.

Don’t try to do this all at once. Slowly replace social media with something you truly enjoy and that helps you grow.

Starting to implement these three steps will significantly increase your attention span. Don’t hesitate to give it a try! What methods do you use to improve your attention span? Feel free to share in the comments
